Owner & Lead Engineer

Cris Cain

The artist and engineer behind AmeriCAIN 521

Cris Cain, a recording engineer since 2004, founded, owns, and personally operates AmeriCAIN 521 — recording, mixing, and mastering sessions himself rather than handing clients off to rotating staff.

Portrait of Cris Cain, founder and lead engineer of AmeriCAIN 521 Recording Studio

From Williamsburg shows to a studio of his own

1

Long before AmeriCAIN 521 opened its doors, Cris Cain was booking shows, playing sessions, and recording demos throughout Williamsburg, Brooklyn. That firsthand experience as a working musician, not just an engineer, is what shaped the studio he eventually built.

2

Frustrated by rooms that treated sessions like transactions, Cris founded AmeriCAIN 521 to give independent artists the time, gear, and attention their music deserved. As both owner and lead engineer, he's personally behind the board for the sessions booked at the studio — not a name on a business license.

3

He also records and releases his own music, a perspective he brings into every session — understanding the difference between a technically correct take and one that actually connects with a listener.

Artist owned. Artist operated.

AmeriCAIN 521 isn't run by outside investors or a rotating cast of hired engineers — it's owned and personally operated by Cris Cain, the same person tracking your vocals, riding the faders on your mix, and finalizing your master. That direct, artist-to-artist relationship is the foundation the studio was built on.

Where his experience runs deep

Every session at AmeriCAIN 521 is shaped by hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of a record.

Recording Engineering

Tracking vocals, instruments, and full bands with a hybrid analog-digital signal chain built around each artist's sound.

Mixing & Mastering

Blending warm outboard gear with precise digital tools to finish records that hold up on any playback system.

Music Production

Building beats and arrangements from scratch alongside artists, rather than dropping vocals onto a stock instrumental.

Artist Development

Coaching performance and studio comfort for first-time artists, drawn from years of being a working musician himself.

Accessible Studio Operations

Working with each artist to accommodate accessibility needs, so every session feels comfortable and welcoming.

Work directly with the founder

Book a session and you'll be working with the same person who owns and runs AmeriCAIN 521 — not a rotating engineer roster.
